Drunk and drive and all other violations in roads is dealt by Law No. 21 of 1995, known as the “Traffic Law” . New clauses detailing traffic violations and their punishments have been added to this law. Driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics, whether legal or illegal, is strictly prohibited.

In the United Arab Emirates, drunk driving is strictly prohibited by law. Article 10.6 of the Traffic Law makes it clear that motorists who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol are not allowed to operate a motor vehicle.

Violating this law has harsh penalties in the United Arab Emirates. According to Article 49.6 of the Traffic Law, the motorist may be subject to criminal punishment, including imprisonment and/or a minimum fine of AED 25,000. Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol carries the same penalty. Furthermore, according to the law’s Article No. 59.3, an individual may be subject to arrest if they are discovered operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

In addition, the court might order any additional steps it sees fit. The driver’s license could be revoked for a time period of three months to two years, and the individual would be unable to apply for a new license during this time.
